How did you get into boating?
I’ve signed up for a learn to sail course to show my students, especially the girls, that it’s never too late to learn a new skill that links to your dream (mine is to sail the Atlantic!). Even though I'm new to boating I love the water I swim nearly everyday (open water and pool) and surf, snorkel and scuba at every opportunity.
Tell us about your boating achievements
Jumping on a boat with Greek natives and being told to sail it to the full moon! I’ve also signed up for my first boating course starting at the end of February this year.
What have you been up to recently? I am in my first year as a qualified biology teacher and am known for being the ocean teacher as all my topics (from forms of waves to ecology conservation involve an ocean link). Being a teacher I also love to encourage and inspire my secondary-aged students to get outside as it’s an age where sport and being outdoors starts to decline.
Why did you sign up to become a boatgen ambassador?
I want to inspire young people to try new things, I think, starting from a young age and showing people the whole experience of and boating from start to finish is important. Both in terms of sailing, but also to encourage them to be a lover of the sea forever.
