Name: Molly Wilson
Age: 21
Location: Hampshire
Current occupation: University Student and Teaching Assistant
How did you get into boating?
Dinghies were my first love. I learnt in my Dad's vintage wayfarer, and nowadays sail aeros with adaptive foil kits. Along the way I've had a go at any boat anyone offered me, I was just desperate to improve.
What are some of your boating achievements? I’m a Senior Instructor with the RYA. I also cruise and got my Day Skipper's certificate 3 years ago. This has enabled me to take groups out for the day and have them fall in love with the water too. It also means I can volunteer with the sailboat project which aims to get people from disadvantaged backgrounds on the water.
What have you been up to recently?
Through my jobs with the Andrew Simpson Centre Portsmouth and the Army Sail Train Centre I have been learning to wing foil and windsurf; two disciplines which still sharply remind me of what it's like to be a beginner again!
Why did you sign up to become a boatgen ambassador?
Boatgen seems like it aligns perfectly with my values. Getting people from all backgrounds to experience the joy of pushing each other in, the wonder of foiling for the first time, or the euphoria of knowing you have won a race is something that means a great deal to me. So many young people will go their whole lives never having experienced any of these feelings, be it through lack of opportunity of lack of interest. I want to change that.
