We want to gently remind everyone about a simple but crucial practice: removing hooks and lures from your fishing rods when storing them outside onboard your boats.
Why is this important? Our marina is not just a haven for boat enthusiasts; it's also a sanctuary for a variety of coastal birds, including the charming yet sometimes curious young seagulls and guillemots. These inquisitive birds can mistake your fishing lures for food, leading to unfortunate accidents where they get hooked.
How can we help?
Remove Hooks and Lures: Before leaving your boat, make it a habit to remove all hooks and lures from your fishing rods. This straightforward action significantly reduces the risk of harm to our feathered friends. Secure Tackle Properly: Store your fishing tackle in a secure, designated area on your boat. This ensures that it's out of sight and out of reach for any curious wildlife.
Educate Fellow Berth Holders: Share this important message with your fellow berth holders, fostering a community that values the safety and well-being of our local wildlife.
Dispose of Waste Responsibly: If you accidentally hook a bird or encounter any injured wildlife, please report it to marina staff immediately. We have protocols in place to provide assistance and contact the appropriate authorities for professional care.
Our marina is more than just a place to berth our boats; it's a vibrant ecosystem where we coexist with nature.
By taking these simple steps to protect our feathered friends, we demonstrate our commitment to preserving this unique environment for future generations of marina berth holders and wildlife enthusiasts alike.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to our marina office.
