Meeting in the morning at Cardiff Bay Yacht Club guests are introduced to their skippers. Following a safety briefing we make our way to the boats and then lock out into the Bristol Channel.
This alone is an interesting experience for non-sailors but it is only the start of a
fun day sailing in the channel.
The day is definitely not a race, but we do set a course that will be fun in whatever conditions the day deals us. Individual boats may progress at different speeds and the skippers will make decisions as the day unfolds.
Returning to Cardiff Bay Yacht Club in the afternoon for a buffet lunch, there are always a few stories to tell while catching up over a glass or two!
The simple principle is that our local sailing community offer their boats - with the owners acting as Skipper - to local businesses and individuals who then make a charitable donation for the pleasure of a day sailing with their guests in the Bristol Channel. Although it is definitely not a race, we do have a great trophy for the team that the organisers feel best deserves the honours on the day!
The donations made in order to sponsor each yacht then enables us to run the event and donate all profits to our chosen charity, the RNLI.
2022 saw a slightly smaller fleet of 12boats taking part but we still managed to raise a massive £13,500 in donations for the RNLI
