Local Notice to Mariners No 3 of 2024

Marina Lock Shutdown November 2024

Mariners are advised that for a period of approximately four weeks from Monday 4th November 2024 maintenance work will be carried out on the inner lock gate at Royal Quays Marina.

During this period, it will not be possible for vessels to enter or exit the Marina.

The lock shutdown will allow for a full inspection and survey of the lock gates and the completion of essential maintenance, including the overhaul of hydraulic cylinders and the replacement of lock gate seals.

Local Notice to Mariners No 2 of 2024

Closure of Marina lock gates - Wednesday 4th September 2024

 Notice of Lock Gate Closure Wednesday 4 September 2024

In order to repair an electrical fault, the lock gates  at Royal Quays Marina will be out of action from 0830 to 1600 on Wednesday 4 September 2024.

During this time, it will not be possible for vessels to enter or depart the marina.

Vessels wishing to go to sea on this day should depart the lock before the close down.

Vessels may use the waiting pontoon to delay their sailing, or if returning to the marina before reopening.

We will endeavour to complete the repair as quickly as possible and if completed earlier than scheduled this will be notified via the marina Facebook page.

We apologise for the short notice of the closure, however, it is important that we undertake the work promptly to ensure reliable operation of the gates.

Local Notice to Mariners No 1 of 2024

Day time closure of Marina lock gates

Servicing of the hydraulics on the lock gates at Royal Quays Marina is planned to take place during the day on
Tuesday 23rd, Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th April 2024.

This work will require a temporary closure of the lock gates to all traffic between 09:30 and 15:30 hrs on each day.

Vessels wanting to lock in and out on these days should do so before/after these times.

Vessels are welcome to moor temporarily on the outer waiting pontoon if wishing to delay departure, or if returning to the marina when the lock is shut.

Temporary closure of Fuel Berth

The Royal Quays Marina fuel berth will be out of operation between 0830 and 1700 hrs approx. on Monday 18 December 2023 to allow for the installation of new equipment.
Vessels needing to refuel on this date should plan to take fuel either side of the closure

Following heavy rainfall associated with Storm Babet, flood debris in the Tyne estuary is continuing to cause a problem as it accumulates against the lock gates.

Mariners are advised that the lock gates at Royal Quays Marina will be out of action on Wedneday 13th September between 830 and 1700 (approx.).

It will not be possible for vessels to enter or depart the Marina during this time

Mariners are advised that divers will be carrying out underwater work on two of the now disused timber lock gates, situated either side of the current lock gates, during the period from Tuesday 5th September 2023 to Friday 15th September 2023

Repair Work to Disused Timber Lock Gates

Mariners are advised that from Saturday 26 August 2023 conservation repair work will take place on the disused timber lock gates at Royal Quays Marina. The work will take place during daylight hours and will be ongoing for approximately one month.
