Take a walk along the Tyne from the marina, past the Fish Quay, Collingwood’s Monument, and ending at the magnificent Tyne Piers and Tynemouth Village with its historic Priory and Castle. There is lots to see, and refreshments aplenty along the way and the history of our big river unfolds before you.
Both King Edwards Bay and Tynemouth Longsands are Blue Flag award winning beaches offer stunning golden sands along with rocks dunes and cliffs and are ideal for a family day out. Surfing lessons and board hire are available at Longsands. If the weather should turn, Tynemouth Aquarium is only a short walk away.
A day trip to Newcastle (Gan doon the toon)
Newcastle is a vibrant and passionate city with great character. There is some stunning architecture, iconic bridges across the Tyne, museums and galleries, culture and entertainment, eating and drinking, and shopping till you drop. You can sail up river to the City Marina on Newcastle Quayside or take a Metro.
For vessels needing provisions, the best options are Tesco on Norham Road (7 mins by car/taxi) or Asda in North Shields Town centre (5 min by car/taxi). There are no large supermarkets easily reached in walking distance but there is a local Premier store nearby and some of the big supermarkets will deliver to Royal Quays.
Explore the North East
The North East of England has a long and rich heritage and some stunning countryside to seek out and explore. Sites such as Durham Cathedral, and Hadrians Wall, and the Northumberland coastal castles can visited by car or guided taxi tour. Closer to the marina are Segedunum Roman Fort and Tynemouth Priory and Castle. The maritime heritage of the area is well represented at The Old Low Light Heritagae Centre and the Tyne Volunteer Life Brigade Watch House and Museuem.
