The advantages of lifting point markers in our boat yard operations

Lifting marker stickers are small adhesive labels that are strategically placed on boats to assist in the lifting process. They provide crucial information to the lifting team so they can make informed decisions on sling placement and balance.

Every boat is different and even experienced operators can make mistakes with unfamiliar boats. With so many variations in keel configurations, propulsion drives and through-hull fittings, it's a bit of a mine field when it comes to lining up the slings for a fuss-free lift, particularly if the team haven't had access to any photos of the underwater profile of a hull or are lifting a custom or unfamiliar vessel. These simple stickers act as a universal language between owners, the boatcare admin team and the yard team; with clearly marked lifting points there is less room for miscommunication or misunderstanding and therefore less likelihood for a mishap.

Another benefit is a reduction in the time required to assess a boat's lifting requirements. The team can quickly refer to the information on the sticker and get you out of the water and chocked up in the yard ready to crack on with your job list as soon as possible.

Make sure, though, that any stickers on your hull are clearly marked with the information they are giving. Some boats with sail drives have warning stickers as to where the slings should not be placed, but when the decals rub off over time, these can be mistaken for safe lifting points. Make sure yours are kept up-to-date and you let the boatcare team know if you have these warning markers on your boat so they know what they're looking out for. Our lifting point markers are bright green so they're easy to spot and clearly marked for this very reason.

The boatcare office has a stock of free lifting marker stickers, so swing by and grab yours before your next lift or launch. Even though they're not as important when you're going back into the water, putting them on whilst you're in the yard makes it much easier to see where they should be placed. If you're unsure, Lee, Jack or Keano will be happy to advise.

If you really don't want our little green stickers interupting the sleek lines of your shining hull, we do understand (although they are pretty small...). Give clear descriptions of safe lifting points on your lift out booking form, such as 'in line with the main cockpit winch', or 'a foot forward of the mast foot' and liaise with the operator on the day or schedule a chat with our Yard Supervisor, Jack Drummond, if you're not going to be present for the lift.
