Meet the crew

Our marina team at Portland Marina

Marina Team

Tom

Marina Manager

Tom is an ex-seasonaire extraordinaire having spent time abroad teaching with Neilson and PGL. A windsurfing fanatic, you may spot him blasting across the harbour in his spare time, although he's had very little of that since the birth of his first child... Health & Safety champion, surfer, windsurfer, snowboard shredder, reluctant barn dancer, runner and chief fender rescuer! Tom can turn his hand to almost everything that goes on down at the marina, even paperwork, but you can't pin him to his desk on a sunny day!

Most likely to say... no particular phrase but he'll give you a silly nickname!

Favourite way to get afloat... on anything board shaped

Pet hate... celery, aniseed & hangovers!

Would love to explore... Canada, by board

Bake him a cake... ginger (like Sherryn's from September Moon with real bits of ginger not like shop bought Jamaican Ginger cake!)

Jack K

Assistant Marina Manager

Jack (known as Keano because we can’t cope with two Jack’s!) is not only "the best forklift operator Portland has ever seen", but he’s got more sea miles than most of us. An RYA Yachtmaster Ocean at 20, he’s the chap to speak to for long distance voyaging advice! Inseparable from the other Jack, collectively they're known as J2O.

Keano recently completed his IMM course (no, not to be an International Man of Mystery, but the Intermediate Marina Manager's course) in Portugal and Keano is very grateful to one local gentleman, ask him why the next time you see him!

Most likely to say... "It's nearly Friday!"

Favourite way to get afloat... on a boat! Preferably one with sails, but he's not picky if someone else is picking up the fuel bill!

Loves... Liverpool FC, sailing & stand-up comedy

Pet hate... badly made tea...

Would love to explore... South America

Bake him a cake... no frills choccy cake, nothing fancy!

Liz

Originally learnt to sail on Hobie Catamarans and now has over 7,000 nautical miles under her belt after sailing the med, crossing the Atlantic and cruising the Caribbean on sailing yachts. Now Lucy's main pride and joy is her own boat, and her cheeky little black labrador.

Haydn

Berthing Master

In a previous life, Haydn was a movie star, now he keeps us all laughing with his quick wit and dodgy jokes. He knows a thing or two about boats and used to be an instructor  so you'll often find him teaching new staff the ropes.

Most likely to say... many things, usually in story or joke format!

Favourite way to get afloat... anything with sails, galley & kettle!

Loves... life! Making people laugh, flowers

Pet hate... apathy

Would love to explore... the harbours and ports around the Bay of Biscay

David

Weekend Berthing Master

Most likely to say... "There's [input something delicious here] in the staff fridge that I made last night"

Favourite way to get afloat... swimming

Pet hate... bad drivers

Would love to explore... Japan

Bake him a cake... Tiramisu (there is now a debate raging in the marina office as to whether this is actually a cake, answers on a postcard!)

David

Sharon

Cleaner

Unofficially known as a second Mum to most of the team, Sharon looks after us all, baking the team home-baked cakes and her speciality; the most delicious sausage rolls. The longest standing member of the Portland Marina 'Gleam Team', she keeps us all in line with a smile but woe betide anyone who treads muck through her spotless domain... When she's not berating us for leaving our mugs in the sink, Sharon can often be found driving around in her husband's vintage Ford Galaxie dressed up to the nines in authentic rock n roll clothing, doting on her grand children and trying to retreive socks from her mischevious dog, Hudson!

Most likely to say... "Anyone for a brew?"

Favourite way to get afloat... powerboating
