This November we will be carrying out some major maintenance work on the lock gates at Royal Quays Marina and this will mean that the lock will be out of action during the month.
The closure will be for a period of four weeks starting on Monday 4th November 2024 and during this period, it will not be possible for boats to exit or enter the Marina. The closure is to allow us to de-water the inner lock gates to undertake essential maintenance. The opportunity will be taken to undertake a full inspection and survey and several jobs that can only be carried out during a full lock closure, including the removal and overhaul of both hydraulic cylinders and the replacement of the lock gate seals.
We recognise that this closedown is for a longer period than we have shut before, and that it will be inconvenient and frustrating for some marina users, but it is essential that we carry out this maintenance as soon as possible to ensure that the lock operates reliably into the future.
We will of course aim to complete the works as quickly as possible and if we can complete the works sooner, then we will. We'll keep everyone up to date with progress via the usual channels.
The marina’s lock gates are now 27 years old and get used 24/7 365 days-a-year - over the next few years boatfolk will be investing in a programme of upgrading and maintenance to ensure that our lock will be good for a similar timescale ahead.
Although the lock will be out of action in November, the Marina – including our boatyard - will be operating as normal. Owners may choose to use this period to bring forward winter maintenance plans. We have recently announced an Autumn boatyard offer – please contact the Marina office for details or to make a booking.
We apologise for the inevitable inconvenience caused by this shutdown, and we would like to thank our berth holders in advance for their understanding and cooperation.
