Portland Week 2024 - The Pirates vs Mermaids floating panto: Peter Pan

  • Requires booking
  • Suggested donation £2 per child
  • Meet at the Portland Week marquee

Friday 23rd August 2024

Portland Marina

13:00 - 14:00

Our annual floating panto putting the Portland Week spin on an old favourite. This year it's Peter Pan getting the Portland Week floating treatment in honour of SISATA Open Air Theatre's magical community production at Church Ope and also showcasing during Portland Week!

Pitting the dastardly pirates (booooooo!) against the magical mermaids (yayyyyyyy!) to save the oceans from destruction, which team will you be cheering for? Show your support with fancy dress and make your own flags and banners to show your allegiance! As always, the panto is narrated by the wonderful Parrot Liz. We also have a special guest joining us this year. Percy the Pleiosaur will be joining the mermaids in battling the pirates and helping them to save our seas! Percy is made from beach rubbish picked up by Oly Rush of Project Planet.

Please note, our mermaids are wild creatures and can be a little mischievous at times... be prepared to get splashed! We recommend bringing a change of clothing just in case. All ages are welcome, but please see the information on buoyancy aids below. We can't speak for the pirates, but they're a mischievous bunch by all accounts and dastardly to boot, so be prepared for whatever they throw your way, although they're terrible at throwing so mostly it will miss...

As this activity takes place on the marina pontoons, your child will need to wear a buoyancy aid or lifejacket for the duration and be accompanied at all times by an adult. If you don't have your own buoyancy aids for your children, you may be able to borrow one, but please be aware that we only have limited sizes and cannot provide buoyancy aids for children younger than 6 years old. You will need to request to borrow a buoyancy aid when booking, we don't want any disappointed children on the day!

The panto itself is approx. 20 minutes in length, but we have allowed an hour to get everyone seated safely on the viewing platform and pontoon and for photo opportunities with the pirates, mermaids, Percy and Oly afterwards.

This is a popular event and often sells out quickly, but don't worry if you miss out on a floating platform ticket, you will be able to view the panto from the footpath that runs in front of the event marquee too, it's just better at sea level!

Huge thanks to Sippi for sponsoring this event and Boon Boat for providing the viewing platform.
