Our resident family of swans have moved on.
The cob swan passed away a couple of months ago, so the mum has been raising the 3 cygnets on her own.
In the past few weeks, a new male cob and his partner have been trying to claim territory of the marina. Every time the lock gates open, the cob has been entering the marina, but recently started attacking the cygnets and mum. It’s been awful to see and the marina team have intervened every time to stop the swans fighting.
On Wednesday we made the call to Swan Rescue a small independent charity who rescue swans and take them to sanctuaries or new locations. The decision was made for Peter & his wife who run the rescue centre to take the mum and the 3 cygnets to a sanctuary. This will give them the best chance of survival as the attacks would continue until the couple of swans won the territory. On Wednesday we helped gather the swans so they could be transported to their new home as a family, it was sad to see them go but it was the best thing to keep them together as a family.
